Welcome

2017 Pennzoil Anchor Race

Bank of America 500 | October 6-8, 2017

The year's second anchor race for Pennzoil took place at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Bank of America 500. The event brought together numerous assets, customers and leaders from around the country to experience the track to road performance story of Pennzoil and Team Penske first hand.

Successfully dodging lingering rain storms throughout the weekend, guests went from an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Team Penske race garage, to a unique dinner complete with a visit from NASCAR driver Joey Logano and first class hospitality during the race. The track to road story came to life during a tour of the NASCAR pits and garage area, showcasing the remarkable engineering involved in the sport. Student members of Shell Fuel for Success also had a blast at the track, and are always a pleasure to see in their Shell gear.

Scroll through for the whole experience.

Customers Engaged on Race Weekend

Saturday Pre Race Activities

Charlotte and the surrounding area is known for being the hotbed of American motorsports. Nearly every NASCAR team race garage and office is located within 65 miles of the downtown Charlotte city center. With that comes a complete ecosystem of supporting organizations that thrive off the sport. Many drivers and team owners also call the Charlotte area home, due to its convenience and access.

Guests got to take full advantage of this unique market with a behind the scenes tour of one of the most prestigious race garages in the area - Team Penske. Representatives from Team Penske led guests on a private tour, highlighting the technicalities and engineering required to bring maximum performance to the track week in and week out.

After the dinner together, Shell and Pennzoil guests also had the opportunity to attend Brad Paisley's free concert at Concord’s zMAX Dragway on Oct. 7, the night before the Bank of America 500, in honor of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s final Charlotte Motor Speedway start as a full-time driver. The concert was just a short walk from the hotel, and many came back the next morning excited as ever to see Brad Paisley as a happy surprise.

Come back to this page in the next couple of weeks to see an extended video covering the whole weekend experience.

Race Experience

On race day, guests were given the VIP treatment at Charlotte Motor Speedway. With over 90 guests in the suite, it was a unique opportunity for 10 customer groups to connect together and enjoy the race. Before the race started, the track to road story of Pennzoil products came to life with a tour of the NASCAR garage and pit area.

Guests from Penske Automotive Group and Jiffy Lube got an extra-special experience with the Best Seat in the House that included a meeting with Joey Logano on the grid and the opportunity to watch some of the action on top of the pit box (seen below).

Jiffy Lube Activation

Leading up to the race, a local Jiffy Lube retail location promoted a meet, greet & autograph session with the #22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion driver Joey Logano. The response from fans was overwhelming, with lines wrapping around the Jiffy Lube station. Fans brought hero cards, hats and other memorabilia for Joey to sign.

Joey Logano also had a chance to chat with the Jiffy Lube team members about some of the connections between the oil used in his race car and the oil available for customers.

In addition to hosting NASCAR driver Joey Logano at a local retail location, Jiffy Lube further connected to the sport through on-car branding leveraging the decklid program. Nothing brings a technical partnership to life like seeing your brand on the track at 200mph.

Fuel for Success Youth Initiative

Shell Fuel for Success is a philanthropic partnership with law enforcement agencies within communities across the U.S.

The Fuel for Success Program provides underprivileged youth with mentorship and introduces them to the exciting world of motorsports. Over 20 student members joined us at the track on Sunday and got their very own hospitality tent in the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway. Between Joey Logano stopping by, his replica car, and their law enforcement leaders guiding them through the day, it was sure to be a weekend they won't soon forget. The Fuel for Success program also actively encourages STEM-based learning and introduces students to the possibilities ahead through motorsports. Thank you to all of those involved for making this program a reality.

My weekend was fantastic, thanks again for having me! The event was run very smoothly and as always Ron is a great guy! The lead engineer for the 22 car did an incredible job at integrating Pennzoil’s product into how it effects the performance of the vehicle.

I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for the opportunity this weekend. On the personal level this was such an amazing experience for me. I talked to Ron and the other guys about my background this weekend so they know exactly why I was so excited to be there. I literally grew up under the poverty line and remember watching NASCAR in the projects. This trip was surreal, I truly appreciate it.

Honestly thank you so much for the opportunity. I had a great time. Both of you are so professional and caring it was amazing. The other influencers and I talked about how well organized and stress free this trip was. We felt very well taken care of.

Guest Survey Feedback

After marquee events like this one, guests receive a timely online survey for them to fill out in hopes of continually improving the experience for years to come. See below for some highlights from the initial survey results. The link to view the survey in full can be found below.

🏁  [Best part] The shop tour, although there were a few of us that were hoping that it would also include going over to the Indycar side, as well.

🏁  [Best part] Meeting Joey and getting to know the event staff better that will help future deals.

🏁  [Best part] The high level of interaction between the assets and the customer. I could also appreciate the knowledge the staff exhibited on the pit tour - we had Josh.

🏁  [Improvements] Not having my family there and also not knowing anyone there feeling like an outsider.

🏁  [Opinion of Pennzoil] They are a very kind and generous organization and that makes me super proud to go out and sell or promote their product.
