2018 Darlington Throwback

Darlington Throwback Reveal

When it was announced that the traditional Labor Day race date would return to Darlington Raceway in 2015, the speedway introduced an award-winning theme called “The Tradition Returns” and encouraged teams to celebrate the occasion by running a “throwback” paint scheme on their car for that race weekend. The effort was tremendously received by fans, the TV network, and NASCAR.

Now, each year a majority of teams have brought back throwback or vintage schemes that signify or remember a former driver, sponsor, team, era or more. Shell and Pennzoil have participated in this endeavor each year with positive results. In 2018, Pennzoil decided to bring back an iconic paint scheme from 1998. The car was owned and designed by Dale Earnhardt Sr., Dale Earnhardt Incorporated was the team, and the driver was a fan favorite - Steve Park.

Each year since 2015 that a throwback scheme by Shell or Pennzoil was announced, fans had clamored for this particular scheme. In 2018, Pennzoil answered those requests with an unveiling of the car across many platforms on Tuesday, July 31st.

The results were tremendous and the warm reception of the nascar community is shown below.
