Daytona 500
Summary
The Daytona 500 signifies the start of the NASCAR race season and is commonly referred to as “The Great American Race.” As Shell and their VIP guests descended to Daytona Beach, FL and Daytona International Speedway this year, the elevated vibe around the race weekend was easy to see. This year, the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil race team entered Daytona as champions following the incredible run to the title in 2018, a first for driver Joey Logano and second for Team Penske.
Joey’s Ford Fusion was transformed to a Ford Mustang this year, but the fresh look of the race car on the track wasn’t the only new transformation. Shell guests stayed at the brand new Hard Rock Hotel on Daytona Beach, which offered a new and vibrant location for the traditional pre-Daytona 500 Saturday night dinner.
The Daytona 500 was the most-watched sporting event of the weekend, beating the NBA All Star game and the PGA Tour. We welcomed guests from all over the world, some for their first-ever NASCAR race, to experience the 61st running of the Great American Race. The following pages will outline a number of activities that took place throughout the weekend - on and off the track.
Business Engagement
Business Engagement
A massive advantage of being engaged in sponsorship is that it gives you a platform to bring the most important stakeholders of your business together. On Saturday evening, guests from every corner of Shell's businesses, came together and spent meaningful time connecting. The evening started off with a welcome address from Shell Leadership and moved into a great discussion between Todd Gordon and Joey Logano about how important technical partnerships are to producing great results on and off the race track.
Top customers and leadership from: Shell Global, Shell Corporate, Shell Retail, Shell Lubricants, Motiva, Team Penske, various distributors, top-performing customers and sales contest winners. Shell presented Roger Penske with a very special gift as a congratulations for achieving Hall of Fame status in 2018. It was also Gretchen Watkins’, President of Shell Oil Company, first time experiencing the NASCAR environment, a huge point for excitement. When you have this many influential people together sharing time and engaging with one another, it has the makings to create lasting business opportunities.
Leading up to the start of the race, Joey was also featured across a host of prominent media outlets continuing his success from last year after winning the championship. Here, he is seen interviewing with NFL star JJ Watt on Fox Sports.
We also have collected a handful of special features shown throughout the country on Sunday highlighting Joey’s momentum and performance.
Sure felt good to be back 😎

They called the newly refurbished High Bank Suites their basecamp at the track for the weekend, with remarkable Turn 1 views and indoor/outdoor comfort. A special appearance by reigning NASCAR Champion Joey Logano on race day made for a unique experience to hear all of the preparation that goes into the team's performance. With nearly unanimous excellent marks gathered from a post-event satisfaction survey, we look forward to hosting again at next year's event.
