2022 Indy 500 Activation
2022 Indy 500 Activation
One of the greatest weekends in motorsports is the final weekend in May. The United States is celebrating Memorial Day and three of the world’s largest series all compete throughout the weekend across Monaco (F1), Indianapolis (INDYCAR) and Charlotte (NASCAR). Corresponding with all of the racing action are generally a host of announcements from organizations looking to fully leverage the weekend’s platform.
We took 2022’s event weekend to announce some exciting news. Shell announced that they will become the official fuel supplier of INDYCAR, and will also produce a 100% renewable race fuel starting in 2023 – the first for any U.S. motorsport series. This was covered by Racer, SBJ, Motorsport.com, ESPN, NBC Sports...and quite a few others.
We have long seen motorsport’s value in driving innovation and are excited to showcase this example.
The Indy 500 had 325,000 fans in attendance. This makes it the largest single-day sporting event in the world.
We coordinated a custom interview with Team Penske drivers Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin ahead of the Indy 500 streaming from right inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway garage. This was made available to Shell’s internal audience to showcase all of the work the brands do behind the scenes to give Team Penske a competitive edge.
Pennzoil celebrates its status as the Official Motor Oil of INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with unique segments featuring driver of the Yellow Submarine, Scott McLaughlin.
Pennzoil Presents: The Club features a one-of-a-kind interview with A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr., Rick Mears, and Helio Castroneves, all INDYCAR drivers who have cemented their names in history books as the only four drivers to win the iconic Indy 500 four times. The documentary is a special look into what it means to win ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ a remarkable four times. The film includes iconic footage from their victories, as well as additional interviews with Roger Penske, veteran motorsports writer Curt Cavin, and more.

“It has been a really exciting project for us to develop 100% renewable-based fuel for the NTT INDYCAR Series. So our fuel composition includes a significant portion of second-generation ethanol derived from waste biomass, such as sugar cane maize. The rest of the composition consists of renewable components derived from food waste. So this gives us a low-carbon fuel that’s 100-percent renewable, enabling at least 60-percent greenhouse gas reduction compared to fossil fuel-based gasoline.
Now, second-generation ethanol, also referred to as cellulosic ethanol, is obtained from waste feedstocks, and therefore does not compete with the food chain. With respect to the performance of our renewable fuel, it has been tested and approved by both engine manufacturers in the series, Chevrolet and Honda, and has met the demanding needs of INDYCAR engines with high performance and durability.”

Onsite Experience
Onsite Experience
Our group got to access all the best and most exclusive experiences the Indy 500 had to offer. We facilitated safe and controlled visits to the pit lane and grid and had unique access to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway thanks to the ever-expanding business relationship with Penske Corporation.
We treated Richardo Mussa, the CEO of Raizen, to some hot laps in the two-seater INDYCAR to get a first-hand experience of what it’s like to race in the Indy 500.
For some fun outside of racing, we treated guests to tickets to the Dierks' Bentley concert on Saturday night.
Drivers Josef Newgarden and Scot McLaughlin along with a panel of Penske team members came together with our guests to enjoy a celebratory dinner the night before the race.
