2023 Shell-Pennzoil Darlington “Throwback” Weekend
Shell-Pennzoil is excited to celebrate its racing heritage at Darlington’s NASCAR Throwback Weekend May 13-24, 2023. This year, we wanted to shift the credit over to Roger Penske and Team Penske’s impressive winning heritage. We featured Team Penske driver Joey Logano and Executive Vice President Walter Czarnecki to unveil the No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Mustang throwback scheme.
It was all inspired by Mark Donohue's AMC Matador. Making its NASCAR debut in 1972, the Matador was raced by Donohue, Donnie Allison and Dave Marcis. Donohue recorded Team Penske's first NASCAR win on Jan. 21, 1973, at Riverside International Raceway driving the No. 16 AMC Matador.
