INDYCAR Spring Training

During Spring Training for the NTT INDYCAR Series at Thermal Raceway, Shell Motorsport Technology Manager, Bassem Kheireddin, attended and conducted a number of pre-arranged interviews to discuss the new 100% renewable race fuel supplied by Shell.

Driver Onboarding at the Streets of St. Pete

The 2023 NTT INDYCAR Season kicked off with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in early March in St. Petersburg, Florida. The weekend started with an onboarding session with the drivers featuring a video about the fuel and Bassem onsite to present and field questions from drivers and media. In the days leading up to the race, a resource document was distributed to motorsports media with images and other easy consumable content for reporting.

Media Engagement on May 19th

On Friday, May 19th, a group of select media were invited to a luncheon in the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway Pagoda. During the luncheon, a special panel presented an all-encompassing discussion about decarbonization in the sport – including the 100% renewable race fuel supplied by Shell.

The panel consisted of:

• Bill Combs, VP Sustainability Strategy, Penske Corporation 

• Cara Krstolic, Director, Race Tire Engineering and Manufacturing, Motorsports at Bridgestone Americas 

The morning before the media lunch, Shell was awarded the Louis Schwitzer Award for Innovation at the Indianapolis 500 for the development of the 100% renewable race fuel.  The annual award is presented to engineers by engineers, celebrating the individuals behind the innovative concepts introduced to the motorsport industry.
